In March of 2003, I met Joey Ogburn in the castle on Camelback Mountain when I was working as a Cruelty Investigator for the AzSPCA (Arizona Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). We had come together over a case of, what else, horse abandonment. We discovered that we shared a dream of a facility for rescued horses where kids would have the opportunity to learn about horses and help with their rehabilitation. We both envisioned a loving facility with fun educational programs filled with life and hope that would restore and rebuild the horses and children of our community.
When Joey took that leap of faith and began the Luv Shack, I was honored to be a part of it. Having had experience with many different rescues, the Luv Shack is the only rescue I have attached my name to since they have always operated with integrity and kept the both the horses’ and children’s best interest first and foremost. The Luv Shack is an organization that keeps to their mission, finding homes for adoptable horses and offering programs that benefit children and adults. My favorite part of being out at the Luv Shack is watching the transformation that happens to both the horses & children as they rebuild trust and confidence in each other. It is apparent from the first time you visit – this place is performing a great service to our community.
My passion for animals began at a very young age and led me to a position as a Cruelty Investigator for the AzSPCA, where I rescued my dog Kroll & Hombre my orange tabby. Shortly after 9/11, I was let go due to funding issues and began doing promotional work for various venues in the valley, as well as office management. Currently, I enjoy working as the Pastor’s Assistant at Carefree Church. I also play flute for the Anthem based orchestra, Pro Musica Arizona Orchestral & Chorale. And come fall, I get wickedly involved with the Luv Shack’s Fall Festival & Haunted Attractions.
Saturday mornings you can find Kroll & I at the ranch. We’d love to meet you. Hope to see you there some time soon! |
