At only a week old Solo, was found alone, under a stop sign, in the rain. It appeared he had fallen out of a truck and went unnoticed. His back left leg was broken in at least two places. What are the odds that: 1) the lady who found him knew about goats and took him home; 2) her plea on Craig's List would be answered with help to get goat milk replacement and money for a vet visit and x-rays; and 3) although the much needed surgery was more than she could afford, a good samaritan named Tracy, reading Craig's List, thought to call Joey Ogburn at the Luv Shack Ranch Horse Rescue to see if she could help? Tracy offered to pick up the goat from the West Valley and bring him to the Ranch.

(LuvShack Ranch, November 2009) Beaker is our white Silkie hen who has hatched several eggs. Some of the eggs were hers and some of the eggs were laid by other hens. You can tell which chicks are hers because Silkies have 5 toes on each foot (most chickens only have 4). Silkies also have dark blue flesh and bones and blue earlobes.
Beaker was a rescue and was given to us by a kind-hearted woman who was keeping her in her house because Beaker has a club foot. This does not seem to bother Beaker at all. She has proved to be a wonderful mother hen.
Silkies are also known to be very docile and friendly so Beaker goes with the Luv Shack Ranch to events designed for children. |

The Ranch is home to three rescued pigmy goats. Greta is 6 yrs. old and Ona is her 4 yr. old daughter. Joey received a frantic call from a father of two young girls in 4-H. When goats are raised by 4-H kids they are basically prepared to go to sale for their meat or be used as milking goats. In this case the man begged Joey to find them good homes but they have become permanent Ranch residents. Ona is very sweet and loves people. She is able to travel and is a welcome addition to all of our kids' programs.
The third member of our goat family is Oreo, who looks like her name. She was brought to the Ranch because her former owner had dogs that didn’t like goats and they were worried she would get hurt. Oreo is the most playful but also the most shy. Lately she has been sleeping in the hay bin, compelling Greta and Ona to eat around her. |

(LuvShack Ranch, November 2009)
Many wild rabbits enjoy visiting the Luv Shack Ranch in search of scattered goat food or grain left by horses receiving supplements. Through some mishap, Lefty suffered the loss of part of his left ear, hence his name. He has been visiting for more than 2 yrs. and, though he may not visit daily, he is easily recognized when he does.
