Buster is an 18 year-old, 10.2h, (tri-color) Paint Pony who became a permanent resident of the Luv Shack Ranch immediately upon his arrival. He loves people and working with children. His loved his job this summer as a member of our Kids' Summer Horse Camp because he was included with the "big boys", Charlie, Bandit, Max, Jet, Raf, and "tomboy", Frankie.
This year's monsoon and heat wave put the Luv Shack Ranch's volunteers on alert to watch for signs of dehydration and possible colic. Some horses were affected more than others and we were vigilant to give electrolytes when needed and cool them down by hosing them off. Several of our horses needed to be kept in the shade, some with a fan on them. We are happy to report we had no colic in our herd of 26.

Linda couldn't contain her excitement when she learned the Luv Shack Ranch was going to need homes for 5 mini mares. Tinkerbell and Cinderella have been together for a long time so Linda took them both, much to the delight of her grandchildren!
Linda is an avid animal lover who is always ready to help an animal in need. She has taken in and cared for Grace, an elderly draft mare we rescued from slaughter whose last 6 months of life were filled with love and care; Buddy, a starved and neglected gelding who is now a healthy, muscled beauty; Delilah, an abandoned ex-race horse; shy Winnie, a jenny donkey; and Emily a rescued BLM jenny donkey who has personality and spunk and who is ready for training and the spotlight.

Rising Star is a 17h, approximately 18 yr. old Thoroughbred mahogany bay mare with a very kind spirit. She was rescued from owner neglect in September 2008. She was formerly raced and is head shy, possibly due to her racing experience. She had been entered her in our 2nd annual Luv Shack Ranch Trainers' Challenge but had to be brought back to the Ranch because she is displaying a stifle problem. She will make a wonderful companion horse as she is very mild and quiet and has been in a herd her whole life.
As luck would have it, Rising Star is being fostered up in Chino Valley as a companion horse. She lives with a Quarter Horse gelding and they have quite a nice place to exercise and to come in out of the elements. We couldn't be happier for this mare who has been through so much in her lifetime.

Six years ago my family and I went to the Luv Shack Ranch Rescue. When we pulled up, my first words were, "There's my horse". He was a beautiful black and white paint named Indi who became so much more then my best friend, he was a part of our family. Sadly, he passed away January 28, 2010. That day was so hard for me I couldn't believe my best friend was gone forever. Three days later we went to Luv Shack to try to find a new horse and ended up taking home a dark bay Thoroughbred named Sky. I wasn't sure about taking him at first but he seemed to like me so I decided to foster him.

7-year-old Mustang/Arab buckskin mare. She was available as a companion horse only. She had been severely abused and her back right leg has severed ligaments so she can never be ridden. She came to the Luv Shack Rescue pregnant and gave birth in February of 2009 to a beautiful buckskin paint colt we named Scout. Dancer is halter broke and responds to patience and kindness.
We are happy to say Dancer has found a beautiful home with Andre and Claudia. She has 3/4 acre of pasture, complete with trees and a barn she shares with another of our rescued horses, Maya. Horses live a VERY long and happy life with Andre and Claudia. They have taken in other rescued horses who live quality lives up in their late 30's -- one even to age 42! They have a 33 year old mare, Lonnie, and her 13 year old (filly), Bailey, in the adjoining pasture. The 33 year old looks and acts like she is 13 :) Bailey you would guess as 5 years old. Andre swears it's the grass in the pasture .... it is that and the tranquil atmosphere and obvious love that surrounds their household.
