Dear Joey,
Thank you for introducing me to Pax. He's a horse that meets all my wants and needs as well as fitting my riding level and personality so well. He's my best bud.
We spent months looking for a horse for me but they were all either too fast, too slow, too old, or too green. I just wanted a horse that was young, energetic, athletic and, of course, good looking. Pax is all of these.

As soon as Dr. Sickler DVM told me it was okay to jump Annie, I texted Angela, my instructor, who started jumping her the very next morning! Annie has loved trotting and cantering over ground poles, but it's obvious she has been eyeing the jumps in the arena. Angela started her over some cross-rails and was even able to canter over a double bounce (3 jumps, with no strides in between). She seemed a little clumsy at first but her second day of jumping was much more graceful.
I've been riding enough at this point, that my strength and balance have come back and I'm now able to ride Annie more often. Before, Angela was the only one who really rode her and I might ride her the last few minutes of my lesson. But in my lesson on Saturday, I spent the entire time on Annie and even cantered! Angela thinks I am now able to ride Annie whenever I want so, although I will continue my lessons, I'll ride Annie a few times a week without Angela's assistance, which is what I did this morning.
It's hard to believe that when I met Annie, I couldn't lead her down the street, couldn't brush her or pick up her feet as she spooked at everything and fought everyone every step of the way. I'm not really sure how or when it happened, but she trusts people now. People always tell me how beautiful she is, that she's one of the sweetest horses they've ever seen, how incredibly calm she is for a 4 year old, and how she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. I can't believe I'm responsible for most of that.

Irene was looking for a horse exactly like Delfica for her daughter, Christall. Christall's riding instructor saw Delfica at our Trainers' Challenge and thought she was the one. When Delfica and Christall met, it proved to be a perfect match. Delfica is a 6 yr. old Mustang mare literally rescued off the slaughter truck when she was only 9 months old. She always was inquisitive and intelligent which she proved at the 2010 Luv Shack Ranch Trainers' Challenge.
The picture of Christall and Delfica says it all. When watching Christal ride, it is very obvious Delfica is attuned to Christall and her needs, each bringing out the best in the other. They will be learning and growing together. As of June 5, 2010 the adoption became official. We think Delfica and Christall are very lucky girls. |

Looking for a companion for their horse, Desi, a 7 yr. old black 18h Holsteiner mare, Greg and Elaine came to the Luv Shack to meet Fiona, a 15 yr. old mini mare, recently retired from being a brood mare and a new arrival at Luv Shack. Fiona seemed to know they were going to be her "forever parents" before anyone else. A connection was formed with Greg who informed his wife, "Fiona is mine."
Fiona is usually a little shy about being haltered but, on the day we were taking her to Greg and Elaine's, she walked right up to the halter, put her nose in, walked to the gate, trotted out to the trailer and hopped in, as if she were trying to hurry to her new "home". Desi, very sweet with a heart matching her size, simply couldn't contain her excitement upon meeting her new friend. She ran, kicked up her heels and tossed her head in joy. Fiona established herself as the boss with her little squeals that made Greg laugh each time. Desi copied everything Fiona did. It truly was a joyful, fun ending to a perfect day. |

Peanut and Pebbles are two mini brood mares who have been retired from breeding. Their previous owners contacted Joey Ogburn at the Luv Shack Ranch to help re-home 5 mini mares.
Peanut and Pebbles now live with Sarah and Josh and two young (full-sized) big sister mares. Peanut made herself at home by rolling in the dirt several times and Pebbles treated us to a dance which included stretching and cris-crossing her front legs 3 or 4 times. It is obvious these little ones have personality galore that will keep coming out as they settle into their new home.
